Screening interview
Screening interviews are popular with large companies in the initial stages of their recruitment process. They allow employers to filter out large numbers of candidates in a short amount of time. In a nutshell, screening interviews:
- can be conducted by phone or video
- include strength-based questions, such as ‘Why are you suitable for the job?’
- include competency-based questions, such as ‘Describe a situation when you delivered good customer service.’
- ensure you have a reliable phone line/signal or internet connection
- check the equipment that you will be using works
- make sure that you have a suitable background for video calls – tidy and plain
- have a trial run with a friend or family member.
You prepare for a screening interview as you would any other type of interview, by researching the company, practicing answers and dressing smartly, but there are some other things to be aware of:
